VeroS Silk Screens can be printed using either side. Perfect for when a mirror image is a feature of the design or components. Use on polymer and other clays, ceramics, porcelain, wood, paper, textiles etc.
How to Use Silkscreens:
- Place the screen onto the surface to be printed. When applying on polymer clay, use a flat sheet of conditioned raw clay. Very lightly smooth the screen onto the clay with an acrylic roller or flat of the hand. Use a light touch or the clay will clog the holes in the screen.
- Apply a thick line of paint along the top edge.
- Drag the paint over the silk screen using a squeegee or an old credit card as an applicator.
- Use tweezers to lift one corner of the silk screen, and slowly remove it.
- Immediately Place the screen into the container of water you have ready.
- Let the paint dry before working on the project to prev.
How to use Magic Silkscreens:
- VeroS Silk Screens include a series of “magic” screens. Get multiple patterns by turning the screen 1/4 or 1/2 turn before applying more paint. Repeat for a variety of effects.
- Apply first colour as per instructions given above, being sure to include the marker points on the screen.
- Wash screen and let dry.
- Put dry screen in place. Turn 90 degrees (i.e. 1/4 turn). Align the marker points.
- Apply second colour.
- Wash screen and let dry.
- It is an option to turn the screen a further 90 degrees (another 1/4 turn), before applying another colour.
- Turning a half turn or 180 degrees will give a different effect. Experiment on paper first so that you save wasting clay.
Tips for Using VeroS Silk Screens:
- Before starting, have a container of cold water ready to drop the silkscreen and applicator into. Add drop of detergent if necessary.
- Acrylic paint dries quite fast. Do not let paint dry on the screens or it will clog the holes that allow the paint to go through. This will permanently damage the screen.
- Rinse the silk screen gently with water.
- A thick flat sponge gently wiped over the screen under running water is helpful.
- Be very gentle with the screen or the emulsion can rub off and ruin the screen.
- Place on a flat piece of towel to dry.
- Do not pull silkscreen apart if they get stuck together. If you do, it risks removing the emulsion. Simply soak them in water for a short time and gently them peel apart.
