Tavoos ™ – Variety Sample Pack

Tavoos ™ is a wonderful new art material that behaves differently depending on the colours of the background. It has magnificent patterns in reflection and transmission when the light shines on it.  Light reflection dances and the colours change when you bend and play with the film.  For these reasons, it is very difficult to capture the beauty of Tavoos™ and depict the colours photographically.  You just have to take our word for it – it’s gorgeous!

It is available in both thick and thin sheets, in solid colours and also in multi colour sheets either striped or gradient.   Play around, experiment and GET CREATIVE!

Each Tavoos™ – Variety Sample Pack contains:

• 4 solid coloured samples, 50mm x 50mm (2 x 2 inches)
• 1 multi-colour sample, striped or gradient, 50mm x 50mm (2 x 2 inches)

Design tips:

• Try it over different backgrounds, ie textured, stamped, skinner blends, stripes etc.
• The thin Tavoos sheets appear similar to the Mylar sheets we carry but Tavoos is a little thicker than Mylar and has different reflective qualities.
• Stamp on it, use heat set embossing powders, (not too hot though or it will go brittle).
• Edge it with Glue Foil.
• Bend it, layer it with other materials. 
• Make fairy wings.
• Faux leadlight or windows for fairy doors.
• Mosaic.

What is it?
Tavoos is acrylic-based polymer sheets that capture and manipulate light to reflect different colors back at the viewer based on lighting and viewing angle.

Why is it called Tavoos ™?
The Tavoos (or in English… the peacock) is quite a notable natural beauty. Much like the Tavoos™ artistic material itself, the Tavoos gets its beauty not through different pigments but from how the nano-layers of the feathers capture and manipulate light. Although the material has hundreds of plastic-based nanolayers instead of feathers, it is still able to manipulate light and reflect it back to the viewer in a wide array of dazzling colors, creating an artistic spectacle previously unknown to the art materials world.

What adhesives can I use?
Any adhesive that works for acrylic-based materials will also work for Tavoos™.

What happens when I heat it?
Tavoos with soften around 120°C (250°F) and become malleable. Also, it is not recommended to heat Tavoos™ past 180°C (350°F).

How can it be used?
Tavoos ™ can be used for a variety of art applications. Mixed media, paintings, with polymer clay, nail art, jewelry, scrapbooking etc! The potential is limitless. What will YOU create?

Where does it come from?
It is an American-made product manufactured through proprietary methods in the middle of sunny Florida.

What is the difference between the thick and thin options?
The thinner version can be twisted and folded with less resistance than the thick option. The thick version remains flat when held and has a slightly higher heat tolerance.

Why does the color of my order look different than the picture?
It is difficult to photograph and depict accurately as it is a unique material that does not get its color from dyes. It gets its color from light manipulation and reflection in such a way that it changes color by changing the viewing angle, lighting and background colour. As a reference, we view the material from directly above it with a black background. What makes the “multicolored” option different is that many different colors can be seen simultaneously.

I got finger prints all over my Tavoos™… what do I do?
Luckily, the materials are very simple to clean. They can be gently washed with hand or dish soap and water and it will not affect the material negatively. It is highly recommended to dry them with a clean paper towel in order to avoid water marks during air-drying. A drop of rubbing alcohol on a clean paper towel also works well.
