Pair of Polly Collective Depth Guides – Abrolhos Turquoise Chunky Glitter. A pair of acrylic guides, used to achieve even depths of clay, fondant etc.when rolled with an acrylic roller. Sheree from Polly Collective designed these depth guides specifically for slab makers but they are perfect for anyone wishing to get sheets of clay with an all over even depth of approx. 3mm.

Each pair of guides comes  with:

• a pair of small depth guides, approximately 3mm thickness; and
• detailed instructions on how to use them.

Depth guides are made from super strong. hard wearing acrylic. Small size sets may be purchased alone to expand the choice of colours in your collection, This is especially popular for co-coordinating colours with slabs when photographing for marketing purposes.  Plus, you will want to get more gorgeous, glittery, glamorous guides because they are so pretty!

Technique for making slab style components for earrings, pendants etc using the depth guides:

1. Start a slab off by rolling conditioned clay to the thickness of the Large (4.5mm) Depth Guide Set using an acrylic roller. This is done by placing the guides either side of the clay at a width that will allow the roller to roll on the guides when the guide depth is reached. (4.5mm guides are not included with this particular set).
2. Add patterns and designs to the base using other coloured clays.
3. Use the set of small (3mm) depth guides to roll down and amalgamate all the beautiful designs to an even depth of 3mm. Lift and turn the clay, lightly rolling until the 3mm depth is reached.
4. Add texture and markings with modelling, sculpting, needle tools etc.
5. If desired, add other embellishments (foil, leaf, glitter, acrylic paint etc).
6. Cut components using cutters or with a scalpel style craft knife and templates.
7. Bake according to clay package instructions.
8. Sand edges.
9. Drill holes.
10. Assemble using earring findings and jump rings.

Note:

Acrylic is hard wearing and easily cleaned with a wipe or rubbing alcohol. Polymer clay can react with acrylic leaving a permanent mark so prevent this occurring, be sure to clean clay from the guides after use.

Some slight irregularities in the surface can occur with chunky glitter but is barely discernible and does not negatively impact the use of the tool in any way.
