Neodymium Iron Boron Magnets, or Rare Earth magnets are incredibly strong and a great way to add a bespoke clasp to your polymer and jewellery projects. A concealed magnetic clasp will add value and finesse to those special necklaces, bracelets, boxes with hinged lids etc. These magnets are strong and will easily hold a heavy necklace of polymer clay beads.

Tips:
Some Rare Earth magnets have a dot on one side to differentiate between the sides that attract and repel. If your magnets don’t have this dot, add a dot to each one with a marking pen so you know which side is to be embedded first into the clay.
Magnets are temperature sensitive. When using for polymer clay projects, create your piece with the magnet in place then remove just before baking. Glue the magnet into the piece once all baking is complete. However, Rare Earth Magnets are super strong so he magnetic may still be strong enough after baking. It is up to individual needs.
There are many different ways to make invisible clasps using magnets. YouTube and Pinterest are a good source for ideas. Helen Breil and Melanie Muir are renowned for their use of magnets to create innovative invisible and hidden closures.
